Orangutans in Manila

Elly Maynard

Congratulations on achieving 80 wonderful years.

You have been a huge inspiration to me personally, and I have followed your journey with much interest. You have shown me that one can never have a heart to large or too small when it comes to helping animals. One of the tasks I want to accomplish is to obtain better conditions for animals at a private zoo in Manila. When there on my last mission, I was asked to identify the orangutans kept in windowless sheds and only brought out for photo shoots. I was in touch with people in Australia who said they could relocate them. Unfortunately, the orangutans came from Kalimantan and could not be liberated back there for some reason. However, we continue to work with local organizations to get the conditions improved. I’m attaching a photo of the orangutan I fell totally in love with. Jane, words cannot express my deep admiration I have for you and all the work you do. Look forward to another 80 years!
