As part of the Briscoe Western Art Museum Film Series, Char Miller, author of On the Edge, will be speaking on water, followed by a booksiging and showing of the film Chinatown at the Jack Guenther Pavilion.
The Briscoe Western Art Museum explores how film has influenced and challenged our perceptions of the West. From the first black and white to today’s 3D features, the Western film genre continues to thrill, inspire, and challenge our imagination and understanding of this vast region.
The Briscoe Museum revisits Western classics in this year's film series: The Urban West. Unlike the days when Cowboys would ride off on horseback into the sunset, urban Westerns often depict the same “good guys vs. bad guys” struggle, but in a more contemporary setting . Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson, John Travolta, Geena Davis, and Susan Sarandon, take us on a journey as they pack their six-guns, two-step, and drive off into the sunset through the Urban West. The screenings include an exploration of the contemporary issues depicted in each film by an expert in the field. Read more.
