On January 6, 2015, Barry Lopez turned 70. In honor of this milestone, his many years of creative work, and his generous practice of helping and guiding other writers and artists, a group has joined together to establish a fellowship in his name. Its full title is The Barry Lopez Visiting Writer in Ethics and Community. The hope is to get a committee, which will include Barry, up and running in the next few months to select a writer for a residency at the Ala Kukui Retreat Center in Hana, Hawai’i, sometime in the fall of 2015. The fellowship period will end with a public presentation in Honolulu. You can find more information about the developing plan on Kickstarter, here.
