Eavan Boland
Eavan Boland is the Bella Mabury and Eloise Mabury Knapp Professor in the Humanities and the Melvin and Bill Lane Professor and the director of the creative writing program at Stanford University. She has been a writer-in-residence at Trinity College and University College in Dublin, Ireland. She was a poet-in-residence at the National Maternity Hospital during its 1994 centenary. She is the author of eight books of poetry, including Against Love Poetry, In a Time of Violence, and An Origin Like Water: Collected Poems 1967–87, and the prose collection Object Lessons: The Life of the Woman and the Poet in Our Time. Boland is on the board of the Irish Arts Council and a member of the Irish Academy of Letters, and her honors include the Lannan Award for Poetry. She lives in Stanford, California.
