The intersection of natural and personal history fascinates Christopher Merrill, and are are invited to the TTU Humanities Center Forests Speaker Series where he will discuss and read from his book, Self-Portrait with Dogwood. As director of the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program, Merrill has undertaken cultural diplomacy missions to more than fifty countries, which helped to shape this unusual book. Self-Portrait with Dogwood, Pam Houston observes, “makes a case for a new kind of memoir in which the self—rather than being spotlighted—is but one slender thread in an intricate weave that reaches across species, centuries, and time zones.” If you’d like to join us, register under Events at Humanitiescenter.ttu.edu
