STUDENT INTERN POSITIONS


Job Title:  Assistant to the Director (Intern)

Number of Openings: 1 internship per semester

Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8:00AM – 4:30PM, flexible based on class schedule. Preference given to students available for a full school year (fall and spring semester). Occasional evening/weekend work (if available).

Hours Per Week:  10-12 (possibly flexible to 25 hours during summer semester)

Start Date/End Date:  First/last day of classes with additional hours available during breaks

Supervisor:  Director

Job Description:  Assist the Director of the Press and other staff as needed with various tasks relating to the management of the Press. Specific tasks include handling or assisting with: routine communications and mailings; developing ideas for and assisting with marketing/sales campaigns; fundraising research; editorial research; other duties as needed.

Experience Gained:  Professional work environment. Exposure to the print/digital book publishing, marketing, sales, fundraising, and non-profit organization management.

Candidate Qualifications:  Undergraduate student at Trinity University. Very strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Preference given to students interested in professional employment in any area of publishing, media, communications, public relations, sales, marketing, business, event planning, non-profit management, and related fields.

Probationary Period:  Thirty (30) days, upon evaluation

Job Title:  Graphic Design (Intern)

Job Description:  Assist the Press, specifically the Marketing Manager and other staff as needed, with various tasks relating to the design of marketing, sales, promotional, and other materials for books published by the Press. Specific tasks include work for print/online application such as: design of promotional items such as flyers, graphics, catalogs, posters, invitations, signage, stickers, postcards, bookmarks, etc.; book cover design; book page editing; image manipulation and archiving; management of font and art libraries; other duties as needed.

Experience Gained:  Professional work environment. Exposure to the graphic design and marketing/sales collateral development in support of commercial products and cultural events.

Candidate Qualifications:  Undergraduate student at Trinity University. Good interpersonal skills. Basic graphic design experience required including knowledge of Adobe Design Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.). Preference given to those studying or interested in employment in graphic design.

Job Description:  Assist the Press, specifically the Marketing Manager and other staff as needed, with various tasks relating to the marketing, promotion, publicity, special events, and sales support for books published by the Press. Specific tasks include: archive media clips received; pack/ship books for the media; media and marketing research; feature story and promotional copywriting; contacting the media to promote editorial coverage; prepare and distribute sales materials; sales prospect research; assist with special event planning; other duties as needed.

Experience Gained:  Professional work environment. Exposure to the print/digital book publishing process and related marketing/sales areas.

Candidate Qualifications:  Undergraduate student at Trinity University. Good written communication and interpersonal skills. Preference given to those studying or interested in employment in any area of media, journalism, publishing, communications, public relations, sales, marketing, business, event planning, non-profit management, and related fields.

Job Description: Assist the Press, specifically the Marketing Director with digital media projects including video and photo shooting and editing and graphic design visuals. Some responsibilities include: production and editing of video/photo projects; production and editing of graphic elements for online videos; organization of photos, videos and other media sources; work with Marketing Director on social media strategy and messaging; research and implementation of best practices related to social media, video production, and campaign development. Other related duties as needed may include various tasks relating to the marketing, promotion, publicity, special events, and sales support for books published by the Press. Specific tasks include: creation on book trailers; online short documentaries; create visuals for insertion in videos; maintain and upload videos on website, etc.

Job Title:  Editorial (Intern)

Number of Openings: 1 internship per semester

Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5:30 PM, flexible based on class schedule. Preference given to students available for a full school year (fall and spring semester). Occasional evening/weekend work (if available).

Hours per Week: 10–12 (possibly flexible to more hours during summer semester)

Supervisor: Senior Acquisitions Editor

Job Description: Assist the editorial staff with title acquisitions, editorial processes, and book production. Specific tasks include handling or assisting with editorial research, copywriting, proofreading, blurb solicitation letters, assist authors with text and art/images permissions.

Experience Gained: Professional work environment. Introduction to the print/digital book publishing from title acquisitions, through the design and production process to print books.Exposure to the curatorial work done by every media outlet seeking to balance established reputation while accommodating latest trends.  Entry level experience for editorial and curatorial roles, and many positions within media and communications. Exposure to current  issues in copyright and intellectual property in the print and digital spaces.

Candidate Qualifications: Undergraduate student at Trinity University. Very strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills and attention to detail needed. Preference given to students with a demonstrated interested in professional employment in any area of content editorial and publishing; and communications and media. Digital Humanities curiosity also a plus.

Job Title: Events/Programs/Editorial (Intern)

Supervisor: Assistant Editor/Programs and Education Coordinator

Job Description: Assist the Assistant Editor/Programs and Education Coordinator of the Press and other staff as needed with various tasks relating to the select events and programs developed and hosted by TU Press, as well as editorial assistance with select book projects in development. Specific tasks relating to events/programs include: assisting with event planning/management, coordinating authors/speakers, marketing/promotional copywriting, ticketing/registration, and related tasks. Specific tasks relating to editorial projects include: manuscript review, editorial research, permissions, and other duties as needed.

Experience Gained: Professional work environment. Introduction to the print/digital book publishing design and production process.  Entry level experience for editorial and curatorial roles.
